The first compost in Estonia, obtained from plant-based materials in the processing of disposable compostable food packaging, is ready!

We are very pleased and honored to announce that in the end of October we started an excellent pilot project in cooperation with the Lasnamäe District Government.

As part of the project, rose beds around the Lasnamäe District Government House have been fertilized with compost made from disposable dishes. It is a fertilizer produced from Vegware compostable plant-based food packaging

In 2019, the Viljandi Folk Music Festival used Vegware’s compostable dishes and in cooperation with Vätsa Landfill carried out decomposing experiment, which has not been done before in Estonia.

It turned out that the experiment was successful: all the dishes were composted in a special reactor This is the first project in Estonia where disposables made from plants have been used to make compost.

We have reached a preliminary agreement with the Lasnamäe District Government that of a positive result in the spring, we will discuss the possibility to use such compost in the improvement of other green areas in the district.

This innovative approach will help to reduce the “plastic” footprint and take a step towards preventing environmental pollution.
